"Art of Alaska and the Pacific Northwest Coast"
"Kwagul Salmon"
(pen and ink/graphite
4 x 6)
Original Pen and Ink/graphite - $475 U.S.
The Kwagul (sometimes known as Kwakiutl) are primarily a mainland coast people and also inhabit the Northern part of Vancouver Island. Their art style is among the more elaborate and complex of the northwest coast cultures. It can be very intricate and delicate at times while still maintaining the monumental appearance of this style of art. The salmon is central to their culture and this depiction is more of a traditional rendition of a salmon totem including a salmon/trout on the fin and human on the tail. Graphite is used for the red.
